foldSpace: Foldable Partition/Furniture Product Concept

View my Online Design Journal for this Project.

foldSpace is an emerging product concept that is being developed as a group project for Haas business school's New Product Development course. The product aims to fulfill the furniture needs of young, mobile people who live in dense neighborhoods. Our inspiration? The old Rubik's Magic toy from the 80's! My roles on this project: Project management, user interviews, product development & creation of tangible prototypes.

Ground Truth: Community Mapping for Development
Based on extensive research in Africa by teams of graduate student researchers funded by the Gates Foundation, Ground Truth is a new service for providing businesses and organizations with rich geospatial information about rural communities in the developing world. My roles on this project: User interviews, product development and prototyping mobile and web interfaces.

Android Based Mobile Learning Project
I am currently working with Kimiko Ryokai and Lora Oehlberg on Geolocation-based education tools. The basic concept behind the project is to rethink how educators can plan cirriculums and field trips using mobile devices. My roles on this project: Interface design, creating prototypes of various fidelities, coding prototypes for field testing.
Art/Mo/Sphere: Tangible Virtual Bubble Interface

Visit the Art/Mo/Sphere Website

Soap bubbles are a common and accessible childhood plaything. Bubble wands are used to transfer breath into bubbles of various sizes. Our Art/Mo/Sphere project explores the metaphor of the bubble wand as an interface to a computer system that creates art in a playful way. Traditional soap bubbles are simple, beautiful, and capture the attention of those who play with them. My roles on this project: Software prototyping, Java code.

aliasFree: An Alias-Aware Search Tool

Try a Live Demo of aliasFree

aliasFree used nicknames to provide better search recall from both Google and Twitter. When a user enters a query into the search field, names from the Freebase database are suggested to them. The user can select any number of aliases and only one domain to display search results from Google and Twitter. These results are displayed dynamically, as the user clicks through aliases and domains. My roles on this project: Concept, CSS, logo, JavaScript development.

Virtual "Etch i-Sketch"
After playing with 2 potentiometers, I felt compelled to create a virtual Etch-A-Sketch type program using the Processing programming environment. The program takes values corresponding to resistances from the Arduino board, and translates those to coordinates on the screen. A Force Sensitive Resistor controls the color of the Etch-iSketch, the softer one presses, the "redder" the color, and the harder one presses, the "bluer" the color gets.
